Plans and limits

Hosting is open to everyone.

One site is one plan. An account with three sites has three plans, and each is paid from the same wallet as your models and live data.

Prices are US dollars, the same currency as the wallet. A paid plan is charged when the site first goes live, for its first 30 days, and again every 30 days after that. A site that never goes live is never charged. If the wallet does not hold the plan’s price when the site’s first publish works, the site stays off the air and says how much the plan needs; top up and press Redeploy. When a plan’s price changes, a site already on that plan pays the new price starting with its next 30-day period.

What is counted

• Traffic is what a site sends to its visitors, added up over the 30-day period. It is fair use: the plan’s price covers it up to the ceiling in the table. It is also the only figure that can cost you more than the plan.
• Per publish is what the files of one publish may weigh together: 50 MB, the same on every plan. A publish over it is refused, and nothing is billed for size. The exact limits are under Limits on what you publish.
• Deploys are the publishes you ask for: pressing Redeploy, and saving a new branch or folder under Change folder. They are counted per day, per site, from the moment the publish is accepted — so a deploy that goes on to read Failed has used one of them. A deploy turned down before it starts does not count: the day’s limit already reached, a site that is suspended or taken down, a branch or folder we refuse as you save it. Creating a site is not counted at all.

The free plan

One free site per account, and it carries a small badge in the corner of the page reading “Hosted with Oraicle” that links back to us. The paid plans carry none.

Asking for a second free site is refused:

you already have your free site; choose a paid plan, or delete the other site first

Move a site to another plan

A site can move to another plan where it stands: its oraicle.app address, its files and its settings stay. On the site’s card, press Change plan and pick the plan. The window shows what is charged before you agree. An agent page moves the same way, from the Agents tab.

• From Free to a paid plan. The plan’s price is charged at once, and its 30 days start at that moment. The badge comes off, and the site can have its own domain.
• Up between paid plans. The move is made at once. You are given back the old plan’s price for the time left of the 30 days, and charged the new plan’s price for the same time, counted to the second. With exactly 20 of the 30 days left, moving from Start to Business gives back $2.00 and charges $6.67, so the wallet pays $4.67. The day of the renewal stays, and the renewal is at the new plan’s price.
• Down between paid plans, and to Free. The site stays on its plan until the 30 days you paid for end, and moves that day. Nothing is given back. The card shows the plan that follows and the day; until then, Cancel move takes the move back. We email you on the day the site moves.
• Before the site first goes live a move is made at once and charges nothing; the plan it moves to is the one charged when the site goes live.
• To Free needs your free slot: one account has one free site or agent page. On the day the site moves, its own domain comes off, and from then on it carries the badge.

For ten minutes, the amount the window shows is the amount the wallet pays. If a price changed in the meantime, or the window stayed open longer, nothing is charged and the window shows the new amount.

Each move that costs money is in the wallet’s history as Hosting, with the site’s name: what was given back for the old plan, and what was charged for the new one.

A site can move as often as you like.

A site that is behind with its renewal cannot move up until the renewal is paid. It can move down, or to Free, at once: its paid days have ended, so the move does not wait, and the renewal is charged at the new plan’s price.

Past the fair-use ceiling

By default the site stops rather than running up a bill. It keeps serving for 24 hours after it goes past the ceiling, and is suspended if it is still over when that runs out. The console shows the state on the card while the clock runs.

A site that stopped this way starts again by itself when its next 30 days begin. It starts at once when you turn on Extra bandwidth, or move it up to a plan whose traffic ceiling it is under.

We chose stopping as the default on purpose. A per-gigabyte bill with nothing above it turns someone else’s flood into your invoice, and the wallet it would come out of is the same one you topped up for models.

If you would rather the site stayed up, each card has Extra bandwidth. Switch it on and traffic past the ceiling is billed to the wallet at $0.05 a GB, as an ordinary line in your usage history.

Limits on what you publish

Publishing straight from a repository holds the whole folder in memory between the download from GitHub and the upload, so it has limits of its own. They are the same on every plan:

Each has its own refusal; When a site says Failed quotes them.

When a renewal cannot be paid

If the wallet cannot cover a plan when its 30 days are up, the site keeps serving for 7 days. Top up inside those days and it renews and carries on. After them the site is suspended: the address stops serving your files and shows a page of ours reading “This site is paused” instead. Topping up after a suspension renews the plan and puts the site back.

A site left suspended for 30 days is deleted and its plan closed.

Deleting a paid site

You can delete a paid site whenever you like, from its card. Its plan closes and the charge stops. The days already paid for are not given back.

Your own domain

A domain of your own comes with the Start, Business and Pro plans. A site on Free answers at its oraicle.app address only. To use your own domain on a site that is on Free, move the site to a paid plan.

What hosting does not do yet says which records a domain takes, and when the site starts answering on it.

What a plan does not change

On every plan, the address is https://<name>.oraicle.app, a site name is letters, digits and dashes, and some names are kept for our own services.
